This location has a pioneer track record of projects tested there since the early 2000, with abundant renewable resources (wind and waves), between 40 and 50m water depth and favourable soil conditions for testing and demonstration purposes.

  • In the Municipality of Póvoa do Varzim, between Porto and Viana do Castelo.
  • 30 minutes away from Porto airport via a high-way.
  • Served by two nearby ports: Leixões (south) and Viana do Castelo (north), both about 20 miles away.
  • Also served by the nearby fishing port of Póvoa do Varzim (about 5 miles away).

Grid Connected Coastal Substation

  • 15kV/6.6kV substation
  • Equipped with a 4MW energy transformer
  • SCADA system and capacitor batteries (rectifiers)

Subsea Cable Infrastructure

  • Client-owned subsea cable installed
  • Old subsea cable available for R&D activities

Offshore Pilot Demonstration Area

  • 5.6 km² offshore area for pilot demonstrations
  • Clear line of sight from the coastal substation (5km distance)
